One of the first things you should add to your elderly parent’s diet are foods filled with nutrients. There are many foods that fit into this category. Some of the best foods include the following:

  • Foods that are low-fat

In your elderly parent’s diet, they should also be getting more water. If your elderly parent isn’t already doing so, you should encourage them to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. This would average out to around 64 ounces of water daily. Water can help reduce health issues, manage weight, reduce pain, increase energy, and much more.

These are some of the foods that are best for your elderly parent. If your elderly parent has specific health issues or allergies, be sure to check with their doctor about foods that need to be avoided. Don’t forget the water is just as important as eating the right foods. Water helps with so many things and without it, your elderly parent could become dehydrated. Besides that, if you and the home care providers help your parent eat better and drink more water, they can feel better and be physically healthier, too.
