Does your elderly loved one need to do more for their heart? There are many elderly people who struggle with heart health issues. The good news is there are many things that your elderly loved one can do to improve their heart health. To begin with, there are some foods that can help them to have better heart health. An in-home care aide can shop and prepare these foods for you elderly loved one.

Keep reading here to find out what foods your elderly loved one should be eating more of and how in-home care can help.

Berries Galore
You and in-home care aides should be encouraging your elderly loved one to eat more berries. They should be eating more raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries. These types of berries are filled with necessary nutrients. They also have antioxidants in them. These help to fight against the oxidative stress that commonly damages hearts.

Dark Chocolate
Do you know how people say that chocolate is bad for you? Well, that isn’t always the case. Your elderly loved one can have some dark chocolate from time to time. In fact, it is good for their health in moderation. Research shows that dark chocolate can reduce one’s risk of getting heart disease. When eaten twice weekly, it can reduce the risk of plaque build-up in the heart’s arteries. If you or in-home care providers are going to get your elderly loved one dark chocolate, be sure the cocoa content is a minimum of 70%.

Seeds
Your elderly loved one should be eating more seeds, as well. Studies have been done that show eating seeds can improve heart health. These studies have shown that many heart disease risk factors are reduced when eating seeds regularly. If your elderly loved one eats seeds regularly, it can lower their blood pressure, triglycerides, and cholesterol. It can also reduce inflammation in the body and in the heart.

How In-Home Care Aides can Assist
Have you and in-home care providers been going grocery shopping for your elderly loved one? If so, be sure you are adding these foods to the list of things to get for them. If your elderly loved one does their own grocery shopping, make sure you take the time to talk to them about the benefits of these foods. Let them know exactly how each of these foods can help improve their heart health. The more your elderly loved one knows that about which foods can improve and strengthen their heart, the better. If your elderly loved one is allergic to any of these foods, there are many other heart-healthy foods available, as well.
